One of the most fascinating subjects for your camera is your pet dog or cat. In fact, animals rank second to children as the most worthwhile subjects for photography. Pets are not that difficult to make a subject out of. But then, there are some techniques that can make this photography task foolproof. To get this job done and over with a little easier, use an ordinary camera with variable stops and shutter speed, together with your basic photography skills.
What sets a picture apart from a regular snapshot is being able to clearly show your pet's face and expression in full detail. This means you are going to have to get close and fill the frame. This is not a problem with big pets. A fixed focus camera allows you to work on the moment, but you will still have to move closer to its four feet. To get the closest possible point to focus the lens on the subject, check your fixed focus model camera manual. If you have enjoyed our article on paintings get more great information on pet portraits.
Other attachments such a close-up lens, on the other hand, are needed when taking a photo of a small animal. You have to pay attention to the lighting used when you plan to take the photo indoors. When you use flash, put it to the side to get rid of red eye. A red eye is the reflection of the flash captured by the lens.
Use telephoto lens to remove unnecessary background details. This lens allows you to take the big picture of the subject even if you are not that close. Apart from animal photography, there are other aspects that need to be discussed, which are the following.
The first thing you should be aware of is that animals are almost like people. The ability to cope with these personalities on specific pets will let you take a good photo of them. Animals can be difficult, like children. More tips, advice and news on paintings can be found at pet portrait art.
The only choice for you is to wait until your subject finally decides it wants to pose the way you want it to. The animal will most likely just pose a single second, so be ready with your camera. To take this picture, you have to be clever, patient, and you need a plan. It's always good to have a friend help out.
To get the perfect shot, let your pet be distracted by your friend; he could use rattles. A helper saves you the trouble of chasing down the wandering animals back to the set. When doing it alone, however, you should try using a longer release cable. Should you need to chase your pet back to the set, or simply get its attention, you can easily take the shot. In order to keep the animal inside the shooting area, you can use a prop or for it to play with.
