10 Ways To Simplify Your Work
Getting work done can be plain boring. It seems that there should be an easier way to get our work done. You might enjoy your job, but there is never an end to the tasks that need done. Perhaps these ideas on how to get things done quicker and easier will help you get more things done.
1. Before you begin your work for the day, jot down the most important things for that day. Get them done first, even if it's only two or three things. You will find that the more you accomplish, the freer you will feel and the more you will be able to get accomplished.
2. When a big job is looming before you, set aside a bit of time each day to do some work on it. The big projects can loom before us, seeming to be bigger than life itself. By accomplishing a little each day on the big projects, you will still have room to get other things done. Big projects will be finished quicker because you will see progress as you work.
3. First, do the job you hate. While we dislike this concept, the bottom line is, you will get more done because you have the unwanted task already completed. It's amazing how we procrastinate on jobs that we don't like to do. Get it done first, get it over with and then you can move on and enjoy the rest of your day.
4. Leave room for interruptions. If you're trying to get things done, you can just plan on it. People are going to interrupt you by calling or stopping to visit you. Your boss may call an emergency meeting or your child may get sick at school. Don't allow these interruptions to ruin your day.
5. Invest in supportive office furniture. Your body needs support in order to work effectively. Ergonomic furniture can help your day go more smoothly just by giving you the support you need. If you work on a high workstation or drafting table, you need to look into a ergonomic drafting chair to get the best support for your body. Regardless of what type of work you do, there is a chair for you.
6. Get organized. If your desk is a mess, you aren't going to be able to get anything done. That's one reason you might consider office desk systems which will give you the space and efficiency needed to get your work done faster and better.
7. Get rid of noise clutter. If noise is bothering you, consider wearing headphones when you need to focus. You won't be interrupted as much and you won't have to listen to other people talking and working.
8. Throw away the junk! It may be time to throw some things away. Take the time to clean out all clutter such as unnecessary desk items, paper and other things that take up space. You will get more done if you get rid of the trash in your office.
9. Use a timer to keep track. If you are stuck on a project that you particularly dislike, set your timer for an hour and determine to work non-stop. Once the hour is over, give yourself a break by grabbing a snack or visiting with a friend. Then, after your break, get back on it again. You are basically rewarding yourself and you will be amazed at how much you can get done in that one hour.
10. Keep your expectations real. Too often, we let ourselves up for failure by try to do too many things and do them all perfectly. To get your work done and do it correctly takes time. Give yourself a break.
It's the goal of everyone to get more work done in a faster, more efficient way. There are many other ways that might help you get things done easier, but hopefully these ten examples can help you. You will find what works best for you through trial and error.
