Frequently Asked Questions...
what physics lab instrument is this?
I'm taking intro to physics. In our lab room there are a group of silver orbs with a small hole in the top. They kind of look like lollipops because they all have a stick coming out of the bottom that makes them stand up. I'm curious... what are they for, and what are they called?!
Answer:
I think that you saw a Van de Graff generator. In the sphere, a lot of charge is collected and if you touch it with something metallic, sparks jump out. If you put your hands on it, your hair will stand up. Its really cool.
